I am checking availability of the nestboxes used by the Dollarbird (Eurystomus orientalis) last year (2018). Nestboxes are reused by the Dollarbirds. The major point of study is to know the condition of box that could be resued by the Dollarbirds next year. This work has started from 3 April this year, and would finish until 20th April. I will show you beautiful landscapes in this season.
Cherry blossoms are in full bloom for 10 days from 5 to 15 April in Japan. However, I am suffering severe hay fever (pollen allergy) this spring.
No. 1. Nestbox installed on the telegram pole placed at the edge of a path. Height; 4-5 m above the ground.
No. 2. Box number. Photograph taken in Ukan-cho.
No. 3. Inside the box filled with a large amount of dry grasses carried by the Sparrows. Dollarbids would not use this box unless dry grasses are removed. Boxes filled with dry grasses are cleaned every year befor the Dollarbirds come to Japan.
No. 4. Landscape of the woodland in Japan in April.
No. 5. Cherry trees planted along the road. People in japan like cherry blossoms.
No. 6. A small brake hut I found in the field of the Dollarbird breeding habitat (Ukan-cho). This would be a kind of shrine. People can take rest in this hut.
